Which board for which break?
Bali has waves for every level. Here is what to bring where.
Canggu
Beach break fun, waist to head high most of the year. A fish, hybrid or mid-length thrives here. Longboards love the mellow inside sections at Batu Bolong. Good for all levels.
Uluwatu
Powerful reef, overhead and up. Intermediate to advanced surfers. A shortboard or high-performance fish is the local favourite.
Bingin
Steep, hollow and fast. A shortboard built for the pocket. Not a beginner break.
Seminyak and Kuta
Gentle rolling beach breaks ideal for beginners and longboarders. An easy introduction to Bali surf.
Dreamland
Longer, more forgiving walls on smaller days. Works well for longboards and mid-lengths when the swell is below head high.
Padang Padang
Tight barrel, unforgiving. Advanced surfers only. A step-up or dedicated shortboard.
Mentawai
World-class waves at every size, but boards are nearly impossible to find or rent out there. Bring at least two in case one breaks. A fish, shortboard and step-up cover most conditions.
